In “Complication,” an essay in the “Sketches” section of the Journal’s July 2016 issue, a typographical error appeared at the end of the sixth paragraph in which a period mistakenly replaced a comma.

As published, it read: “And in case self-reproach is insufficient. There is also embarrassment: I made a rookie mistake . . . .”

This should have read: “And in case self-reproach is insufficient, there is also embarrassment: I made a rookie mistake . . . .”
