7: The incidence of septicemia at delivery and six week readmission in three large states

Objectives

To determine the incidence of septicemia and readmission with septicemia in the presence and absence of endometritis (emm) and chorioamnionitis (chorio) stratified by delivery method in California, New York, and Florida.

Methods

We used the 2003-2011 CA, 2005-2012 NY, and 2005-2013 FL HCUP State Inpatient Databases to determine the incidence of septicemia in women following vaginal and cesarean delivery. Septicemia, emm, and chorio were identified by ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes during the delivery hospitalization and in any readmissions within 6 weeks after delivery discharge. Univariate analyses were performed, stratified by type of delivery.
