32: Implementation of the perinatal group B streptococcal prophylaxis revised 2010 guidelines: contemporary results from a single institution




Objectives


To assess the frequency of and reasons for noncompliance with the 2010 revised CDC perinatal Group B streptococcal (GBS) prophylaxis guidelines at our institution.




Methods


Through a departmental quality improvement project, all newborns identified as having inadequate intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis (I-IAP) between 5/1/2013 – 4/30/2014 were retrospectively identified. From this cohort, medical records of mothers and newborns were abstracted and summary statistics tabulated. Women admitted for 1-5 hours who received no antibiotics, women admitted for > 5 hours who received 0 or 1 doses of antibiotics or penicillin (PCN) allergic women that were candidates for a cephalosporin but received another antibiotic were considered protocol violations.
