Objectives
In the context of current and future multi-national maternal immunization efforts, under the Global Alignment of Immunization Safety Assessment in pregnancy (GAIA) project, we created a definition for gestational diabetes mellitus applicable in high and low resources settings consistent with Brighton Collaboration guidelines.
Methods
We formed a multi-national working group with broad professional representation from high-, middle- and low-income countries. After conducting a systematic literature review, compiling existing definitions and international consensus guidelines and reviewing vaccine literature, we formulated draft definitions applicable in high and low resource settings via teleconferences and online drafting. We incorporated these definitions into a consensus manuscript, which was reviewed and approved by international experts.
