We are delighted to announce the appointments of new editors, effective April 1, 2014.
Dr George Macones, an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2006, will become the journal’s first Deputy Editor for Obstetrics. The Mitchell and Elaine Yanow Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Washington University at St. Louis School of Medicine since 2005, Dr Macones maintains an active research program in perinatal epidemiology to study the relationship between fetal heart rate patterns and fetal academia. He is a renowned national leader in our field and has chaired several National Institutes of Health and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ committees. Following residency, he completed a Fellowship in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and served for ten years there as the Senior Fellow in the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. With over 275 publications, he continues to play a highly influential role in disseminating high-quality information to the obstetrical community.
Dr Jeffrey F. Peipert joins us as AJOG’s first Deputy Editor for Gynecology. Dr Peipert is the Vice Chair of Clinical Research and the Robert J. Terry Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. Following his residency, Dr Peipert received an MPH from Yale University, an MHA from the University of Minnesota and a PhD in epidemiology from Brown University. Dr Peipert’s research has focused on clinical epidemiology, family planning, and infectious diseases in women’s health, and he has authored nearly 200 publications. He is the Principal Investigator on the Contraceptive CHOICE Project–the largest prospective cohort study of reversible contraception in the US. He participates actively in American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ initiatives, from guidelines to practice bulletins.
Dr Vincenzo Berghella has been appointed as Associate Editor. As Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jefferson Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, in Philadelphia, Dr Berghella directs the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship Program. He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts and chapters in areas including prediction and prevention of preterm birth, cervical ultrasound, cerclage, and evidence-based clinical obstetrics and maternal-fetal medicine. Dr Berghella has also chaired several committees of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, is an Oral Examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Maternal-Fetal Medicine and is currently the President of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
