Miller DT, Roque DM, Santin AD. Use of Monsel solution to treat obstetrical hemorrhage: a review and comparison to other topical hemostatic agents. Am J Obstet Gynecol 2015;212:725-735.

A product named in the text and table of an Expert Review on the use of Monsel solution for obstetrical hemorrhage has been replaced by another product.

On the first page of the Table that begins on page 728, the third item in the first column, headed “Substance,” should be “Zeolite,” replacing “Kaolin.”

The last few words of text on page 727 and their continuation on page 730 after the intervention of a large table should read (corrections are in bold; final sentence is added): “QuikClot (Z-Medica, Wallingford, CT) is a chelating agent consisting of granular zeolite [replacing “aluminum silicate (kaolin)”] that concentrates clotting factors and platelets. This product was originally designed for external use in combat settings. Intraabdominal use should generally be reserved for life-threatening penetrating trauma given an exothermic reaction with blood that may cause local tissue damage. Accordingly, there are no reports of its use for obstetric or gynecologic indications. “ The product was recently replaced with a kaolin-based hemostat, which does not produce an exothermic reaction.
