Westhoff CL, Torgal AH, Mayeda ER, et al. Pharmacokinetics and ovarian suppression during use of a contraceptive vaginal ring in normal-weight and obese women. Am J Obstet Gynecol 2012;207:39.e1-6.

In Table 2 (online only, page 39.e4), entitled “Mean ethinyl estradiol and etonorgestrel levels during CVR [contraceptive vaginal ring] use,” the 2 columns listing the mean hormone levels for normal-weight and obese study subjects are labeled “Mean (ng/mL, SD).” This is inaccurate because the table presents not standard deviations but 95% confidence intervals of the mean. The 2 column headings in question should have been labeled “Mean (ng/mL, 95% CI).” In addition, “etonogestrel” was misspelled.

A note below the table states, “The numbers within parentheses signify 1 SD above and below the mean; these are not symmetrical values because calculations were done using log transformed values. The SD presented above are in the original units for ease of interpretation.” Instead, the footnote should read: “The numbers within parentheses signify the 95% confidence interval of the mean; these are not symmetrical values because calculations were done using log-transformed values. All values in the table are presented in the original units for ease of interpretation.”
