June 2012 (vol. 206, no. 6, page 458)
An item in a table in an Expert Review published in the Journal in June 2012 (Groen RS, Bae JY, Lim KJ. Fear of the unknown: ionizing radiation exposure during pregnancy. Am J Obstet Gynecol 206:456-62) contained a typographical error.
The error occurred in Table 2, “Estimated fetal radiation absorption per procedure or event” (page 458). The “Estimated fetal absorption (rad) per procedure” (column 4) for appendicitis, the third type of clinical suspicion listed in column 1, for an abdominal CT scan (“CT scan abdomen”) read “0.8-0.49” (rads). The figure should have been 0.8-4.9 (rads), the same extent of absorption as for a CT scan of the abdomen performed for suspected nephrolithiasis, the fourth type of clinical suspicion listed.
