Under column 1, “Characteristics,” the first category is “Sociodemographic characteristics.” Findings in the third subcategory, “High school graduate or less,” were given no P value; it is <.001.


The last category under “Characteristics” is “Infant characteristics.” For the first subcategory, “Birthweight ≥4000 grams,” the P value is also <.001.


In each case the P value pertains to both the hospitalist group and the private practice group.
