Hamartoma? What is that?


The definition of a hamartoma is a focal overgrowth of cells and tissues that are native to the organ in which they are growing. The overgrowth is made up of normal cells growing with abnormal architecture.

The line separating hamartomas from benign neoplasms is not clear to anyone. Some growths are simply referred to as hamartomas by tradition. Examples of growths that can be considered hamartomas include:
