2 Preparing and Informing the Patient
Before an examination begins, the patient must remove all ferromagnetic items (jewelry, watch, wallet, etc.). All upper body clothing should be entirely removed and preferably replaced with a bathrobe open to the front.
Contraindications for MR mammography
Cardiac pacemakers
Heart valves and surgical clips (in heart or brain) made of MRincompatible materials
Heart or brain surgery within the last 2 weeks
History of adverse reaction to gadolinium in a previous MR examination using contrast (does not apply to MR examinations of prostheses without contrast medium)
There are no acute life-threatening indications for the performance of MRI of the breast. It is, therefore, necessary to avoid any possible injury to the patient that could be caused by performing this examination. In some cases, it may be necessary to do without it.
